Could it really be that they are not doing well since they seem to only want to produce the watch when there is a confirmed order. Retrenching watchmakers might be in the works.
Or maybe they want to create a perception of scarcity eg I can’t see a datograph anywhere, means it’s scarce and so prices will go up like and the 6mths wait makes even more valuable.
I don’t see how this can control the discounts too. If they want to control the discounts, they need to address the reasons why langes preown prices are weak - that’s where you can see the real market prices. It’s really not because of how they sell their pieces.
From a customers perspective if I am looking for a complicated piece - I will want to play with the real thing, instead of a dummy/blocked watch, so they need to make sure there is a sample at the AD/boutique to be used as the village bicycle.

1. Upgrade brand perception . 2. Reduce availability of high end models on the grey market. 3. Steer customers to boutiques where they can see models in the metal. 4. Better visibility over demand. I'm sure there are others.
