A. Lange & Söhne

Definitely agree

But there is also the hybrid of enthusiasts that purchase brand new from boutique/AD but also on the secondary market and I think their purchases across the board should count.

Re your 2 examples, absolutely agree on the hg Lange 1 (wish it was offered to me but I know they went to more dedicated fans of the brand).  As for other LEs such as the L1 MP Lumen etc., my anecdotal experience was that they were not as selective as some were available for walk-ins, which is totally fine (lucky buyers!), and others seemed to have gone directly to the 2nd hand market - I recall seeing some Dato lumens on the market shortly after they were ‘sold out’.

Going forward, and with Lange gaining more mainstream cred (as such things go), I agree that LE allocation is going to be much tighter in view of higher demand but I can also see LEs getting flipped much sooner as is the case with the more popular brands.  We are already seeing some tightening of supply and firming-up on the secondary market but that could disappear in no time if Lange bungles this up by losing consumer confidence.

Its going to be an interesting balance in the long run and how Lange executes this new program is key to their market perception and success in the eyes of their consumers and the wider watch/luxury community.  Personally, I am rooting for their success and hoping they can also make amends with enthusiasts who feel let down by the brand in recent years!

All the best,
Walid
