When the steel Odysseus Datomatic was introduced, we all knew that it required a prior purchase history. That was no secret. It was part of Lange's strategy from the beginning.


That's the dynamic you're referring to -- "you must buy X and Y before you can buy Z" (unless you buy Z from a preowned dealer at a substantial premium).

Does that turn you off to the whole brand, as a matter of principle -- as in "I'd never buy a new Rolex or a Lange because they have this policy for certain pieces"? Or would you still buy a (different) watch from that brand -- one that isn't an application piece -- if you liked that different watch but knew that it wouldn't be sufficient to get the application piece?
