38mm should be ok for many people but imo the lugs are not the best design element of Breguet, otherwise the case and the dial are sublime. Actually it might be the only reason I still haven’t got a Breguet. Ok the lugs were always like this and I understand the historical conservatism of the brand but some things, if needed, should change. I’m sure they are more than capable of coming up with a more contemporary lug design in harmony with the rest of the watch. Those beautiful hands and that gorgeous guilloche deserve this.
Guilloche for days
On the one hand, I can't help but think that this 5177 at 38.5mm with those long Breguet lugs is bigger than I want such a watch to be, and that something like this is at its best at 35 or 36mm (or even smaller) like some older Breguets. On the other hand...

and 36mm might be a perfect size for this beautiful timepiece, but, as you say, this wide 38mm case and dial is really a pleasure to look at ! Enjoy !

The coin-edge and rounded bezel are really gorgeous
I don't know if we can expect them to keep those parts of the case while dropping the lug design... but you MIGHT imagine them shortening and angling the lugs a bit more on some of these

With mblum, I think you are exactly right that the date window works better with this dial than the enamel. I'll give another reason: the enamel dial is smooth, clean, undifferentiated, with only painting on it... EXCEPT for the hole cut in it for the dat...
But they didn't just cut a rectangle in the dial and call it a day...
...they shaped it and designed the numbers to follow the shape.
Breguet lugs
Have own few piece of breguet watches with my 17 cm wrist i can wear it perfectly with thier tradition collection, lug a bit straight but not protruded off from the wrist.
