A Trip to Trieste

Trieste is a very strange town:

When you first arrive there, you have the impression to be in Austria, with a very present Haussmanian Architecture.

Then, you go to the old part of the town, and you're quite diving in the medieval era, if not older, as there are some hints of the Roman presence in Trieste, too.

You will also notice the influence on Venezia, with its colored houses.

A town which will require some time to appreciate it, but the effort is worth it:

My favourite place in Trieste, the " Canale ", which I used a lot for wrist shots...

A Relaxing and superb place!

So Trieste is a blend of very different influences, which is also explanable by its location:

Make 15 Kilometers at the East from Trieste, and you will arrive in Slovenia.

Make 15 more Kilometers, and you will arrive in Croatia.

150 Kilometers at the west: It is Venezia.

200 / 250 Kilometers at the North: It is Austria.

Surrounded by the mountain ( Il Carso ), Trieste has also a door to the Sea, with a very original beach: Pedocin, which is unique in Europe in that sense that a part of the Beach is reserved to men, and the other part is reserved to women.

Here a night pic to shaow the co existence and the mountain and the sea:

Of course, you will find other beaches in Trieste where men and women can share together a pleasant moment.

Here my favourite, located in an old dike at the large of Trieste:

You'll have to take a small boat for 15 minutes, but it is also part of the charm...Going to the beach by boat is funny, and obviously, my daughter agrees!

So, once you're there, you have many possibilities to see such different places.

The Sea, again, with the wonderful Miramar Castle:

The Castle is located in a magnificient par, which is also a door to the sea:

You like castles?

Her's another marvelous one, located in Duino, 25 Kilometers at the East of Trieste:

The Panorama is outstanding:

Don't you have the feeling that this beach inspired some Pirat movies?

smile

If you're lost in front of such beauties, here's something helpful...

I couldn't take many pics inside the Castle by the fault of my Camera battery, but what I saw revelaed a nice surprise:

Damn, what a superdomed table clock!

An interesting pocket watch:

And a sublime Planisphere:

I would like a lot having such a piece in my saloon!

If you're sensible to the pleasures of the Mountain, then Trieste is for you, too.

While higher mountains are located at 250 Kilometers from Trieste, at the North , just near the Austrian boarder, the Carso already offers some very nice landscapes, at only 10 Kilometers from Trieste.

Let me introduce you Val Rosandra:

A small walk of 3 hours will allow you to discover some marvels.

After such a walk under the sun, a small bath in fresh water is more than welcome!

My dog appreciated it a lot:

And it wasn't the only one to appreciate it...

Doesn't it remind you a famous painting from Ingres?

smile

From the Calm to Madness...That's how I could name this trip in Venezia.

We decided to make a small jump till Venezia, and to spend one day there.

To go to Venezia, it is better to take the train, not the car.

After a short 2 hours trip, you will dive into a marvellous world.

First surprise, our train stooped ust beside a Legend: The Orient Express Train, which convinced me that one day, I will have to do it.

I think that there are 2 madness to do in Life, when we come to speak Travels:

A fllight o the Concord, which is sadly not possible anymore, or a trip with this legendary train, to enjoy Time, to travel in Time, and to discover the " surranné " charm of the trip of the Past.

The Train Station presents the big advantage to be located in the City, so you don't have to take a bus or a " Traghetto " ( a Boat ), to begin your visit.

You're in the heart of the marvel!

Damn, it looks like we're not alone to have had the idea of making this trip!

Let me give you an advice: Avoid August to make such a trip, as the crowd is impressive.

End November seems to be a better time!

We all know that Venezia is known for its canals, but knowing and seeing them is a total different thing, sensation.

This is pure magic!

What a charm!

Canals...And small streets, straight, very straight ones.

Who would guess that at the end of this street, is located the Casino of Venezia???!

Who knows that the straightest Venezian street is only 55 cm large???

Everywhere in Venezia, you will fall on pure treasures, magnificient old Palazzi ( Palaces ):

A Festival of colors:

Even the Court of Justice has a lot of class. I would love to plead there!

The antique Jails:

And some surprises, for us, watchnuts, like this original clock wich only provides the Hours...

A reminder of an era where or when the notion of time was not the same...indeed.

Loosing yourself in the streets will drive you to the most famous Place...The Piazza San Marco.

Prepare yourself to an enormous aesthetical and historical shock...

Ready?

Ok:

So many marvels in the same place!

Just close to the San Marco Basilic, the Palazzo Ducale:

The San Marco Basilic:

The famous Torre Dell' Orologio, which inspired Mr Scnhyder when conceiving his Minute Repeaters:

You will notice that the winged lion is omnipresent...Of course, this is the San Marco Symbol!

Now, at the opposite side of the Piazza, you will see 2 pillars:

The ( terrific ) story says that between these 2 pillars, the sentenced people were executed...

Nowadays, it is a door to the Laguna, with a somptuous view.

That is indeed one of the Danieli Hotel most interesting point, as this is the view you have from there!

Hopefully, there are some quite places in Venezia...Where you can avoid Tourists, relax a bit, and enjoying the ambiance:

The Ambiance... That is really something captivating, in Venezia.

A door to the Orient, a colorful trip in the Past, an aesthetical shock.

Then, the last place I was, is less known, but not less pleasant: The Istria Part of Croatia.

The crowd is not there, just Sun, Blue Sky, Red Ground, Nice Trees, and last but not least, a mini GTG with a very good friend: Damian, our Damian ( Ares 501 ).

A charmful and typical Istrian Town, Buje:

The Charmful road to the Beach:

The Sea:

Some local trees, like Olive Trees, Fig Trees and " Pruniers ":

We stopped in the small and beautiful Hotel, in a village called BRTNGLA ( A good name for every Scrabble player! smile ) :

For once, the Moderator wasn't in the swimming pool, but a few swallows, which offered a delightful show:

A GTG in a swimming pool, that is a great idea!

It was in this Hotel that we met, with Damian, for a superb pair of hours, changing a virtual friendship for a real one.

As the day, Holidays and Trips have a sunset, and it was time to take the road back to Paris, back to Reality, after 2 weeks of Dreams and Enchantment:

Holidays are as good as a chocolate cake!
