Patek Philippe 5650G - 3 weeks on the wrist
It arrived just over three weeks ago. Sometimes, when one takes delivery of a new watch, one gets a feeling immediately when one puts the watch on the wrist. That feeling can vary a lot. Sometimes it is intense and sometimes quite flat. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to have gone through this experience of putting a watch on my wrist quite a few times. I understand the honeymoon phase of new ownership. I understand that by our very nature, watch colletors can be fickle. So it is in this context that I can say that the 5650G is the most exciting new watch I have ever worn. For all sorts of reasons, the 3448J remains my favourite watch and it is favourite by quite a distance. However, in terms of new watches that have come direct from the manufacturer, the 5650G has hit levels that no other watch has done. I wrote a post on the various reasons why I had wanted a 5650G. Often, the rationale we have for a purchase may or may not be lived up to by the watch itself. In the case of the 5650G, all I can say is that I just cannot take the watch off my wrist.
Unfortunately, I had a ALS Datograph first series that arrived at almost the same time as the 5650G. The Datograph had been serviced and is looking fantastic. I have never worn it as I put it into service almost immediartely after buying it. There is not a hope in hell's chance that I am taking off my 5650G to put on the Datograph. In fact, not a single other watch is calling whilst I have the 5650G on. Of the modern watches that I have bought, this is my king. If I had to own just one watch....then yes, 3448J. If just two watches, then 3448 J and 5650G. If three, easy, just add 5370P. If four, add the 5131P. If five, add the 5070P. That is my order.
To my mind, this is one of the things that I love most about watch collecting......being taken by surprise by how much a watch delivers.

Quite interesting to see that you placed the 5650G that high up
and after 3 weeks, you cannot blame the "new factor" anymore, so there is something very special in this watch that makes you fall for it, despite all the other choices you have. CC

But I think your top 5 might change once you break in the Dato.

But I think the 5070 may be in trouble, if you give the challenger a real chance. In any case, I have no problem losing (well, I usually do, but not this time).
