Horological Meandering

Daniels

George Daniels, in one of his books, makes a comment to the effect that, from an historical point of view, in periods when watchmakers had nothing new or interesting to offer in the way of technology or improvements in timekeeping they resorted to decoration and external design.

I wonder if this is happening at the moment?

It could be argued that there are technological advances at the moment - and there are new technological goodies out there -  but have they also lost their significance?
