My opinion is also that a see through case back would be a non sense for the re-issue of a Geophysic line. And I agree with you that IWC delegitimated the name Ingenieur with the display back on the latest models.
Now, let's consider a model with a different name - let's say Master Chronometer - manual wind, central second. I would then consider very positively a display back where the high grade movement can be visible with a very high finish. A complementary approach to the Grande Ultra Thin with its little second at 6 and its automatic movement.

72 hours is a usability thing
72 hours of PR means it can be a "weekday" watch, that you needn't wind during the weekend. I think using the 2 barrels of the cal. 875, but geared for precision rather than 8 days, would give you a flat enough torque curve for 3 days A
