Last week in PP boutique in Genever I got the chance to try both on my wrist - and the blue edition of 5905, as well.
My findings: though I have a smaller wrist (about 17,5 cm) both/all three do match fine. Due to special form of case, the 5905 looks smaller and sits really great while the 5170 has more accented lugs and seems to be bigger than the 39,4 mm diameter. My conclusion: different paper values but comfortable wearing feeling.
For the calendar watch, I would prefer the blue dial - really astonishing color and the contrast to case is not so hard as with the black one.
As I own an annual calendar 5205, I will (hopefully in some time) go for the manual wound chrono. Design of 5905 is quite similar to 5205 - both great watches! And the reduced Calatrava look of 5170 will be a good completion. And in addition: I love the 5370 (far out of budget) and the 5170 goes exactly in this direction.
Anyway: any decision you will make will be right: both watches are great masterpieces!!

Go for the 5905 whichever metal.

Annual calendar, can be dressed up or down and the blue dial is beautiful.
Both are great watches.
But I personally like the 5170 more because of the movement and manual wind, as well as the aesthetic of breguet numerals and leaf hands. I certainly appreciate the argument for the AC but this 5170 is just my preference. Good luck.

The manual chrono movement is just gorgeous and the thinner case feels more comfortable on the wrist to me than the 5905.

The 5170 case leaves me a little bit cold, and i would much prefer the 5905P. The 5170 case is a little too thin, and does not have the heft of the P. Good luck!
