For me it's ok.
Not the best they ever made but not bad either.
Indeed it's not very daring to make a square Nautilus. Using the same dial, hands, bracelet ... At least the bracelet should imo have been different.
The Nautilus is somewhat rounder, so the rounded middle link can be rounded, while in the cubitus everything is angular, so a bracelet more like the AP RO might have been better.
But definitely the worst thing is the price. It was announced as a more affordable piece. Last price for the blue 5711 steel was about 28.000, that was 2020. Taking inflation into account a nautilus should be more or less 32.000 euro ... Sorry but 42.000 euro for a simple 3 hands steel watch is ridiculous.

I have to humbly disagree on price.
There shouldn’t be an entry level Patek. Patek should be aspirational. When other entry brands average pricing is 8k, a 40k Patek seems appropriate. Plus one can get a secondary calatrava for half the price. Of course this is IMHO.
I remember Luca Montezemolo say something similar...

So if you see what ppl Are paying in secondary market, you want to eat into that margin as much as possible. I would buy any PP sports watch at retail. And most would as well. So while the prices IS nuts, the market will certainly hold.
I think the price is a little nuts but I like your take. PP annual production is 9x Ferrari though, 10x RM, imo they would need to cut production dramatically to play that game.
At 70k units per year which is about AP and VC combined, they have volume to move and competition to consider.
That’s why one has to buy so many watches before they even consider giving you a sports model.

I was booking a vacation this last summer and wanted to do the same trip I’ve done 4 times in the past. The cheapest room was now 4x what I used to pay for a nicer room. And the hotel was sold out! Watches are no different. Art is a good parallel as well....

With some brands your money is safe. But most watches you can buy at a discount in secondary market these days. So ppls are willing to pay premium for that security.
