Pebble Beach 2017: Quail, A Motorsports Gathering

During Monterey car week, there are many events; but there's one definitive event - Quail, A Motorsports Gathering.

Here are some photos of the incredible event at Quail.

none

The entrance is guarded by porters and security.

none

No shortage of elegance, wine, music, cars, and good food.

none

A Rimac sports car.

none

Still in the concept stage, but former Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond had the displeasure of crashing one in Goodwood earlier this year.

none

Maserati doing what they do best.  Sitting still and looking good.

none

If you haven't seen a Koenigsegg, be prepared to see several!

Notice the entire car is skinned in carbon fiber.  Exquisite.

none

The car is handsome, but she's entirely something else.

none

This is Rolls Royce's new Phantom flagship.

none

The interior looks more conventional and cluttered with more buttons.  The previous Phantom model had a minimalist and simplistic aesthetic.

none

The dashboard has a "gallery" and you can choose what kind of artwork to install in your gallery.  Rolls Royce has several works of art on the menu, but you can also commission your own.

none

none

The previous Phantom proudly touted it had a completely flat floor in the rear so rear passengers didn't have to sit awkwardly and could lounge in the rear as a sofa.  The latest Phantom has the conventional torque tube hump.

none

A line up of some exquisite cars; a Mercedes SLS, Disco Volante, Alfa Romeo 8C, and even a helicopter in the background.

none

These Ferraris need no introduction.

none

An AMG GT Concept Sedan.  Porsche's Panamera will be getting nightmares soon.

none

AMG engines in the 45, 55, 63, and 65 are hand built by one master craftsman.

none

An AMG hybrid powertrain; gasoline and electric motors.

none

none

They also left the keys inside!

none

The new McLaren 720S.  Looks good!

none

none

none

The headlamp is integrated into the cooling duct.

none

A Bell 429 was here to tempt you to start a new hobby...  An aviation hobby.

none

Like Koenigsegg, there were also several Pagani clients who showed their cars at Quail.  With nearly a dozen vehicles, this is perhaps the greatest gathering of Pagani vehicles at any given time.

none

An exquisite interior for an exquisite exterior.

none

Coffee table anyone?

none

none

none

Ken Okuyama, the designer of many special vehicles, including the Ferrari Enzo.  Definitely a name in the industry.

none

Singer.  Enough said.

none

none

none

The Lamborghini Hurracan Performante.  The current fastest car on the Nurburgring.

none

A forged carbon fiber rear wing that looks similar to an Audemars Piguet wristwatch.  This wing is part of the secret sauce of active aerodynamics Lamborghini uses to create a car with incredible handling.

none

Infiniti had this exquisite homage to vintage open wheel racing.

none

That's an ultimate looking machine.

none

none

none

GT2 RS.

none

none

none

It's got a little "Exclusive Series" tattoo.

none

The winner of this year's Quail show.

none

Bugatti; still special.

none

none

none

The Alfa 4C is always a happy machine that's ready to go.

none

Come 4PM the cars drive off and the helicopter takes off.  It's an awesome event that only comes around once a year, and I'm already counting down the days to the next one.

Many thanks to the team at Quail for putting on an awesome event!

The Rimac.... is in my opinion the most appealing EV at this point in time. Both the powertrain and especially the design are top of class. I also happen to love the orange learher color in the new Phantom. It may be somewhat more conventional but its likely in part du...

And you most certainly lived up to expectations :) What a great report - love the pictures! As you said, keeping that five year old alive is essential to long term contentment in life

I'm not a big fan of all these supercars or hypercars as they tend to be more and more similar from a shape/design point of view. That's probably mandatory due to high speeds they can reach but they have less and less appeal for me 😕 Best wishes Alkiro

Very cool and exhaustive post. Some cars need no explanation while others are certainly more particularly, but for sure not less enjoyable. I am not fan of hyper cars but among them Pagani has a special place in my heart. Rolls... nothing new just  Confirming its class and exclusivity. Anyway my absolutely favourite is 288 GTO near the F40😮 Thanks for sharing! Best.

I hope those AMG assemblers are just doing a "mock" engine because with all the beautiful ladies strutting about at the Quail, it would be easy to lose concentration and thus forget a piston or something ... Thanks for the report. Mike

For the past few years Richard Milles have been the timepiece of choice at Quail. You see Richard Milles en masse. Next come Rolex, Patek, APs, Breguet, and IWCs.

A couple of weeks ago i happened to be near the city of Reims ... don't know what led me there ;-). So suddenly it came to my brain i had never visited the old stand of the former racetrack, after a quick search on Googlemaps i arrived at my destination: What a fantastic place for car-nerds like me , i think Cazalea would love it here as well . The 'old' painted advertising makes this place alive again.
