New model 2017: Girard-Perregaux Laureato Flying Tourbillon Skeleton

Friends,

This year’s surprises are not over from the Blue House on the Hill in La Chaux de Fonds!

none

Earlier this year we saw the birth of the Laureato Skeleton…

Now, here is the Laureato Flying Tourbillon Skeleton!

none

Same-same but different? No. Same-same BUT very different!

Same 42 mm Laureato base. White Gold or Pink Gold. Same complication: Skeleton, but executed in an entire different way, I will get back to that.

The most obvious difference being the Flying Tourbillon. By adding the Flying Tourbillon not only do GP raise the bar, they add a complication to the watch that normally would end up being a “hole in the dial” to be able to see.

Here since the dial is already “removed”, you get to see the Tourbillon in its full glory without compromising with the dial.

The Flying Tourbillon adds life to the watch in a whole other way than any regular balance wheel could. To see the Tourbillon swirl in its cage is magic, hypnotizing!

The movement here is the Calibre GP09520-0001, 262 components.

Dimensions are 32.50mm in diameter and 6.20mm thick.

If we compared to the Laureato Skeleton without the Flying Tourbillon, inside is the Calibre GP01800-0006, 30.6mm and 4.16mm thick.

Not only do we have a nicer case/movement ratio here, the larger movement allows a more open layout. Letting us enjoy the Skeleton work even better.

The PVD treated bridges are made in a style reminding me of some other famous bridges, Three Bridges… Fewer, more open… like arcs in the celling of a cathedral…

The “GIRARD-PERREGAUX” nicely integrated with the movement design, located on the lower bridge on top of the barrel.

The big characteristic Laureato sword hands, big luminous areas both on hands and indexes so I can guess, telling time in the dark will not be an issue here, but admiring the Tourbillon and the Skeleton work might be…

You might have noticed that the Tourbillon movement is 2.04mm thicker than the other movement, but the case of the Flying Tourbillon thinner, 0.12mm to be exact! The case being 42mm x 10.76mm giving the watch a nice slender look.

While the White Gold version gives the watch a colder, more technical look, the Pink Gold version is warmer. Unfortunately, I have no picture of the 18 Carat rotor as of now, but I can only imagine it to be beautifully shaped in line with this watch!

The case and bracelet are designed in the same way as the whole Laureato family, a superb combination of brushed and polished surfaces joining by delicate bevels.

Needless to say, this is one I am very excited to see in real!

I think that everyone was expecting this release and I must say that GP did a great job. Personally I like this better than the RO skeleton tourbillon, here the dial seems to be more intriguing and the flying tourbillon is put in a very unusual position. I think that people will deserve sometime to get used to the strange position of the tourbillon on the dial. The brand's signature is beautifully integrated below on the dial. What to say? Really beautiful watch, even if I prefer it with a leather strap. ...

Yes, a bit unusual but still very GP! Now its clear, Girard-Perregaux reintroduce the Laureato not only on "entry level"! Let's hope you are right and we will see a PC version in the future. Thank you for your feedback, PP. Best Blomman

Thoughts about the Girard-Perregaux Laureato 42mm Ceramic

Friends, Last week Girard-Perregaux launched a new member in the Laureato family, the Laureato 42mm Ceramic! From the press shots it looks big and bold. Dark and dangerous. My feelings very similar to my first reaction of the Neo-Bridges with DLC coating. From being used to see the Neo-Tourbillon in Pink Gold, suddenly there was a dark version… Same here, used to my steel version with blue dial, to suddenly see an all-black version makes you think.
