… or connoisseurs which ask for some additional spice.

In the past travelling was an adventure … with lots of room for fantasies and even then additional equipment was needed.

Today, travelling is less adventurous and less “heavy”. The equipment has to be heavy-duty, smart, light … all at the same time – Tumi, Rimowa, Samsonite … comes to my mind. Is there still room for style and some kind of romance?

At least on the wrist it should be possible to travel in style and with some kind of romance, even today.

When I got the Basel presentation from Laurent Ferrier (the brand, not the man), it started like this:

The case and the video was a nice reminder to travelling in style from the past and I liked it a lot.

Well, there was more to like …

You probably have seen the Galet Traveller with its dual-time display already and you got the details if interested.

Short version about details : The two push-buttons integrated into the left-hand side of the case serve to move the local time shown by the central hand either forwards or backwards. The date automatically changes at midnight, while the 9 o’clock aperture indicates the reference time or home time in 24-hour mode.

Nonetheless I would like to share some more pictures & my own impressions.

Several versions are available, for (slightly) different tastes - all sharing the fact to be addictive.

Like always, you have to see a watch on your wrist before you know which one fits you best – or not.

I had the pleasure to try quite a few and will share some.

For the purist:

“Push buttons” like a Grand Sonnerie? The hint is wrong and misleading. I am not a big fan of something like this. Maybe it´s because of the general puristic style of the watch or maybe it is just because it looks very beautiful … to make it short, I really like it this time.

Not only the “silverish” dial (silver-toned solid silver, vertical satin-brushed finish in the center surrounded by circular satin-brushed motif) looks amazing, also the midnight blue one is appealing.

The white painted (gold) indexes on the top level seem to fly above the center part of the dial. The shape of the former is known from Laurent Ferrier, but this time they look even more special – almost sexy.

The multi-level dial fits very well with the two apertures, especially with the bigger aperture on the left side. Everything seems to be very balanced without being boring.

Conclusion :

The diameter is 41mm and the thickness is 10mm. The watch still works on smaller wrists like mine and as a “business” watch it is conceivable or shall I say adorable. It probably will get some nice attention, without being flashy. Wearability is a strength in my book. The useful dual-time complication is added value. How do the pushers feel? Shame on me, I didn´t try it. Will have to check it sometime soon.

So far it is a very nice addition to the collection, because of the added spice. What is about romance or travelling in style? For sure some of the world timers available in the market are more romantic, but for sure it offers great style when travelling – in reality or in spirit.

Of course there was more to see than just a watch for “travellers”, but this one got my main attention.

Nonetheless a brief introduction about more pieces shown.

Galet Secret Meissen

The watch in general should be known and only the dial from Meissen is new. I love Meissen and I love Laurent Ferrier, but not together. Maybe I am biased because of the latest developments at Meissen and their new/own (Quartz!?) watch collection, to mention only one reason.

Galet Classic - 18-piece limited series

The case is in steel and the 18K gold dial is hand-adorned with a textured sunburst guilloche motif. The “teardrop” hour-markers punctuate the décor and accentuate its depth effect, while the slightly recessed small seconds subdial appears at 6 o’clock.

Laurent Ferrier is still a “new kid on the block”, but it is amazing what they have achieved in such a short time. Even when I am not a big fan of so many different versions of the same watch, I am impressed by their creativity and attention to details. Go ahead!
