Hands on review of the Louis Erard Excellence Email Grand Feu

Avatar

It cannot be said that Louis Erard is short of ideas. Under the impetus of Manuel Emch, it is finding opportunities to put its collections in the spotlight through partnerships with independent watchmakers or through products that highlight the crafts. In all cases, such approaches are a win-win situation for all parties involved: the work of the watchmaker or craftsman receives media coverage and gains visibility, while Louis Erard gains credibility by strengthening the watchmaking content of its watches. .....Story

Hands on review of the Squale 1521 Militaire Blasted

Avatar

I wanted to go back to one of the watches I own, the Squale 1521 Military Blasted. The 1521 collection is the base of the Squale catalog and its best-seller. The watches from this collection are distinguished by their case designed by Charles Von Buren and by their water resistance of 500 meters. This case could be purchased by other brands and one of the most famous examples using it is the Blancpain "Bund"...Story

Hands on review of the Chopard LUC Quattro Spirit 25

Avatar

Twenty-five years ago, Chopard offered its first in-house movements. The brand had to celebrate such an anniversary with dignity, given the large number of complications that have been developed since then. We tend to forget it (which is a pity) but the LUC collection is today one of the most complete and accomplished collections from a Swiss manufacture. The number of movements, the diversity of complications, the ability to design a watch with two hands as well as a tourbillon or minute repeater have allowed .....Story

A Patek Philippe Pamphlet from 1939

Avatar
Horology_Ancienne
Present is a pamphlet distributed by Patek Philippe to mark the occasion of their 100th anniversary in 1939! Only 1,500 copies were made with many most likely lost to the battle of age. Our focus here is the translation (a special thank you to @unekual for making this possible) of this text from French to English. Hope you will all enjoy what I found to be a great read. I have owned this document for many years but only recently rediscovered it while organising my shelves...Story

Alpine A 110: My final choice. An introduction to my car.

Avatar

In total transparency, I have to confess that I knew, since the first test drive in September that I will have an Alpine A 110. The questions were when, as I had to find the funds and I was a bit limited on that matter, and which one I would choose. As for the funds question, I could opt for a car I would configure, with the fundamental options, or one with a very low mileage. Both options were totally valid...Story

Introducing The Best of The Hour Lounge: Vacheron & Constantin Repeater Watches

Avatar
Tick Talk
I have a confession to make to you, my fellow Vachonistas; I am a hoarder! Thankfully not the kind who lives in a house jammed to the ceiling with mouldy newspapers and stinking of cat pee; I am an information hoarder. When the The Hour Lounge, the official Vacheron Constantin discussion forum, was suddenly taken offline some four years ago I had, thanks to this small idiosyncrasy, copied many of the interesting and informative posts. Today I am pleased to launch the first in a series of repackaged articles ... ...Story

Wristscan is now live!

I actually have two stories to share regarding watches it took me forever to acquire, in spite of my fondness for them. The first one is this Minerva Pythagore Grande (38mm): I first came across it back in September 1998, just about the time I really caught the watch bug. Back then, my only good watch was a Tag Heuer diver, which I had acquired in 1996 after saving from my pay during my French National Service in Saigon. It was a sporty watch on a metal bracelet, and now that I was back in Paris and starting .....Story
