Roland Iten: For The Man Who Has Everything - This Moderator's Favorite Horological Inspired Lifestyle Item

Avatar

Moderator Patrick_y admits why he has acquired very few watches over the years and doles out unsolicited holiday advice… What do you buy after you have a few nice watches? That's Roland Iten. The man is an energetic man who is filled with bright ideas! I’m a little jaded with watches. Yes, there are some amazing pieces, but who has the time to wear all of them? Amassing a large collection is the definition of “collecting” but as a collector, I feel I’m more of a caretaker, often worrying about my pieces. .....Story

PuristSPro Moderator Patrick_y tries his best to convey his experience as a guest of the Roger Dubuis and Lamborghini event, hosted by Roger Dubuis for VIP Guests and Press. A QUICK HISTORY OF THE BRAND Roger Dubuis was a visionary watchmaker who pioneered new technologies and worked within Patek Philippe for fourteen years in the high complication workshop. He left Patek Philippe in 1980 to start his own workshop which was restoring watches, clocks, and creating concepts for many brands. But his ultimate .....Story

Underappreciated Girard-Perregaux’s from the 1990s – Part V: Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Chronograph Ref 2599

Friends, It is time to conclude the little series of underappreciated Girard-Perregaux watches from the 1990s. In Part V we will go to the end of the decade, century and millennium all the way to 1999/2000. We have seen in this series quite a number of “Vintage” models, i.e. modern watches that were modelled after vintage museum pieces (Vintage 94 in Part IV and Vintage 1996 in Part III or from the 70s; Laureato 8010 in Part II) so it should be no surprise that we conclude this series with yet another “vintage-inspired” .....Story

Jaeger Lecoultre Duometre à Chronographe / Quantième Lunaire / Spherotourbillon Rose Gold, Magnetite Grey dial. The Swan Song?

Avatar

In 2017, Jaeger Lecoutlre surprised us with the unveiling of three Duometres, the Chronographe, the Quantième Lunaire and the Spherotourbillon in rose gold with a magnetite grey dial, all having a 42 mm diameter. If the Spherotourbillon has a traditional opening for the... tourbillon, the Manufacture opted for the two apertures on the Chronographe and the Quantième Lunaire, when I would have preferred a plain dial. One thing is really magnificent, the combination of the rose gold case and this grey dial, .....Story

The icon of personalization, the Reverso

Avatar
foversta
I have mentioned it many times: personalization is one of the favorite themes of today's customers. A watch brand must now be able to integrate into its collection variable aesthetic elements that adapt to the tastes and demands of these customers. Small brands have understood this for several years: watches are generally available in a wide variety of dial and strap colours. Established brands have had much more difficulty in entering into this process...Story

The forgotten classic?

rdenney
Well, maybe that's overstated. But it seems to me that the Zodiac Sea Wolf gets little respect as a seminal timing-bezel dive watch inspired by the French Navy's underwater demolition team specification of 1953. Robert Malubier wrote that specification, which famously led to the acceptance by the French Navy of the first Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, made by Lip. And what fame not drawn by the Blancpain is fully absorbed, and then some, by the Rolex Submariner, which was introduced the following year, in 1954...Story

Hands on with the new Fifty Fathoms Grande Date

Avatar

Since it’s release in 2007 the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Automatique has seen quite a number of variations, we have seen two limited versions with historic roots (Tribute to Fifty Fathoms and Tribute to Aqua Lung), a few white FF (one plain, others with MOP dials), the DLC coated Dark Knight, some in precious metals (polished and brished rose gold and white gold with blue dial), a brushed steel FF with a blue Flinqué dial and last year’s titanium FF with blue dial. The one version I personally expected (and ... ...Story

A few words about the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Perpetual Calendar

Avatar
foversta
I had the opportunity during my last stay in Geneva to discover in preview a new Girard-Perregaux Laureato which will be officially presented at the next SIHH. This watch will propose a complication that is not present today in the current Laureato collection: the perpetual calendar. However, it is not the first time in the history of the brand since the Laureato EVO3 gathered a chronograph with a perpetual calendar. Of course, it was out of the question for Girard-Perregaux to reproduce a clone...Story

Jaeger-LeCoultre: Where the unusual is commonplace – revisited (again)

Avatar

From the Jaeger-LeCoultre 125 Year Jubilé 1958: In 2011 I posted this ad: English – “ Where the unusual is commonplace”… In 2016 I posted this ad: Spanish – “Los altos lugares de la alta precisión”… …and said that “if I ever find this ad in a third language I might pass”… Yeah right, we all know that would never happen! So now, 2018 I post this ad: German – “Ein Hochland der Präzision”… One interesting detail here is that the watches are not drawn as on the other two, but actual photos of the watches. So ... ...Story

Lange und Sohne Langematik Anniversary. It could have been for ten years in my collection...

Avatar

If only it didn't left me in some sad circumstances. I was hunting this watch for several years before being able to find one in Paris, on the 7th of November... 2008. I was totally crazy for that Langematik, for some good reasons: Its 37 mm case, which is big enough for me, a platinum case which offers a nice density, the superb enamel dial with its gorgeous Red XII and a very pleasant depth and warmth, and a nice looking automatic movement with a three quarter rotor...Story
