Remember that watches are made following NIHS norms & common sense rules. One of which is maximising the balance size to enable a good timing, the second being maximizing the Barrel to enable a good power reserve.
Then the escapement, once decided to be made in line, is in line... depending on the number of alternances, the number of teeth at the escape wheel is not much of a choice...
Given this, doing a Simple timpiece is not going to be revolutionary! there's no way you will escape some laws of watch design if you want to keep it simple & reliable... No need for anyone to get inspired by another.
