As someone who buys clocks, which cannot be worn on the wrist nor easily transported for others to see, I can definitely say, I enjoy things personally. And not for validation. Of course, someone can always accuse I own these things to validate something or to compensate for something... And I suppose all I can do is to deny that.
But even if I did buy things to validate something or to compensate for something, I wouldn't tell someone who thought they felt betrayed that Omega would make such a similar watch for 1/20th the price that they were wrong. I definitely have empathy for them.
Now, you and I know, this 250 Franc watch is really a Swatch that just has an Omega name on the dial. But the guts and quality standards are all Swatch. And I like my Moonwatch. But tell that to the guy who just spent 5000 Francs on an "Omega Moonwatch" and just saw this "Omega MoonSwatch" for sale... That guy might feel like he was hoodwinked!
Empathy on both sides, it's definitely a difficult case for the individual who doesn't recognize this MoonSwatch is more Swatch than Omega.
