The advanced tech aligned with romantic admiration of the slide ruler era icon Speedmaster to create an object of aspiration. To peddle that cultivated mystique in the jelly band aisles of the Swatch shack cheapens the Speedmaster brand immensely.
Constrained demand is a buzzword of marketing today. While other brands cultivate the coveted nature of their products by releasing fewer widgets than the market demands, driving prices above MSRP, Omega/Swatch has opted to elevate its entry level range by slaying its golden egg laying goose.
At my daughter’s next bounce house party, I’ll be thrilled when little Madison, face covered in icing, shows me her Moonwatch and delights that our watches match.
