Buying for wrong reasons
If you do not love the watch for its own sake... well, you know the rest.
Without speaking directly about value... let's face it, little by little, year after year, various illusions about Patek are being shattered. I believe the independents and especially Lange put Patek on notice in the last decade. Patek's answer was to keep on raising prices at exponential levels and act like nothing was threatening their throne.
Collectors, little by little, are refusing to go along.
I love many of Patek's current designs, for instance the 5940 is stunning and oozes Patek DNA--but how can the list price not get you laughed out of the room?
So, 'even' Patek faces the reality of the marketplace. Yeah? I knew this reality 5 years ago--it's an illusion.
Finally--one has to consider a whole other reason... batches do get thrown out to the marketplace--and temporarily lower prices--this happened with 5070P--a whole lot came at once--
Buy for love, and this will not matter!

A very simple collector comparison would be the manufacturing capacity for Patek of the Ref. 5270 is infinite due to the in-house movement. For 5970 that capacity was limited to the remaining movements on hand. It only makes sense the 5270 would spiral do...

movement is much better, its impossible not to notice it when you wind it, and toy around with chrono. As for the looks, its a matter of taste

In fact the issue here is that i like a brand protecting it's customers and i was used to have this image from Patek the rarity was a part of the beauty It is a very nice watch and i enjoy it but i would be happier if it was not sold below official retail...
So you loved the value in the watches... not the watches 1st ;)

5270G is perfect
I bought my 5270G late November 2011 at full msrp. I love it and if I was offered a return for full money I wouldn't take it! My 5970P has been very lonely since the 5270G arrived.
