Patek Philippe

Indeed, it's in part also a concern of mine, since unfortunately rare handcrafts are at a significant risk of running out of fresh talent in today's market.

For instance, they told me when I visited Geneva this summer that they currently have *only one* artist in charge of the wood marquetry dials --- scary! smile
That's why I hugely admire Patek's efforts in preserving and perpetuating these arts, as I think they embarked upon a really challenging, long-term project here. It's probably already paying off in cultural/artistic terms, but it hardly makes sense for them from a merely economic perspective, which is even more laudable. (This is of course only possible for a family-owned, independent and healthy company, another big plus for me when I buy their product.)
And they do seem to be typically serious and determined about this --- they recently even devoted an entire area of the new "Patek Philippe 6" specifically to the training of rare handcraft apprentices --- so let's hope that their efforts will continue to be rewarded at this stunning level of quality! smile
