Honestly, as a mathematician, I am normally skeptical about the strength of an argument that begins with "As a business analyst, here is my objective response to...", but I'm glad that I went on reading, as I truly found it a compelling and thoroughly researched piece. Then, as a Patek collector --- especially interested in rare handcrafts, which is another area where Patek is a leader, culturally and artistically --- I can only be glad to find myself in agreement, both with the starting points of your analysis and your conclusions.
For as long as Patek maintains this general aura of excellence and exclusivity --- and it continues to meet and properly advertise the standards that are behind it --- personally I have no doubt it will remain at the very top.

Good points, Joe. As for movement finishings, it depends on the brand we are talking about. For example, we don't expect a superb movement in a vintage ( or modern ) Rolex.
For a vintage Rolex, we are more about history, charm, soul.... For a Patek, it is different. Same for Lange, or some Independents such as Voutilainen...
