Patek Philippe

Thank you for the thoughtful comments, to all who have responded so far!

I have been leaning heavily towards the 5321, but, like others have said, I have full knowledge that I will not be allocated one of them.  Nonetheless, while I am typically opposed to paying one red cent above MSRP, I think I could stomach the grey market premium in this instance.  Specifically, if grey market prices hold, I could probably get one for near $100k, and if I bought it from my AD, I'd be looking at close to $90k with sales tax.  It kills me to pay a 10% premium, but I think I can stomach it in this instance (honestly, there seems to be a glut in 5231s on the grey market).  I also have an ace that I may play, but I'm not really sure if I want to do so (I have an extremely high net worth client that is the AD's #1 customer by a very considerable margin, and I know she would love to go to bat for me).

I will have to give the 5236 a shot.  I do wonder whether it will be difficult to get my hands on it.  But I am a patient man, and I am not quite ready to purchase, so I'm willing to wait a year or two for the right piece.  It is such a special watch.  And if it was 39mm it would be my number 1.  However, as a daily driver, I am hesitant about the size.

captainbob mentioned the 3970.  That is in the running if I can find the right one in my birth year, which would be a very early edition.  There was one up for auction recently, but I don't quite have the funds ready smile.  I'd like to try the 3970 again, as well.  I tried it some time ago, and the thickness was a bit much for me for a daily wearer.  But it is a stunning watch, and there is nothing better than a Patek perpetual calendar chronograph.

I know I have not touched on everything, but I did want to touch on the 5320.  I really thought that might be the one, but it did not sing to me the way that a $100,000 watch needs to (and to be honest, I felt the same about the 5327 - I don't know, something about the subdials didn't work for me).  Perhaps I need to see it in natural light.

Oh, and finally, GirlAndHerWatches, you are a bad influence smile.

p.s., to make one thing clear - I'm not wedded to a blue dial.  Just something I have a tendency to gravitate towards smile.
