You're right, I agree. Patek Philippe wasn't a truly big secret. But it was virtually unknown to the vast majority of the public. 10 years ago, the only brands people knew for watches were primarily Rolex, Omega, and Seiko. Today, Patek Philippe is much more prominent and relatively mainstream compared to what it used to be. You bring up another good point, all the fuss is around the sport line and higher compications and dress watches are indeed ignored.
