Patek Philippe

you have it reversed

youve got it reversed...the naut is a prole watch BECAUSE it is bling bling compared to a simple gold calatrava.

Ok, its complicated so I will elaborate.  Yes, generally precious metal is more bling than steel.  However, the nautilus with its overt design and designer (mssr. genta) "branding" it is a hundred more times more bling than a gold 5196 calatrava.  think Louis Vuitton bag with monogram logo...the material is basically a plastic canvas (like SS) but the overt design and copious LV monogram branding make it more bling than a hermes alligator kelly bag, which is made of a more precious material (alligator skin)

the hermes is more classy/less bling than the prole LV monogram bag because the design bling of the LV bag out-blings the more expensive material bling of the hermes bag.

It seems you were offended by my analysis of the nautilus.  I think its because we are not on the same page.  A lot the discussion on this board is about the technical and craft of watches, and I do enjoy those discussions.  However, I am personally more interested in the stylistic and cultural implications of high end watches and my comments are in that vein so perhaps we are just having different discussions.
