i have a soft spot for Aprilia as well.
one of my favourite bikes was my Pegaso 650 single. the first model, not
the one they later ruined. bomb proof Rotax engine with 5 valve head, with
Michelin MT50's on it it handled brilliantly on the road and pretty well off
road. a proper supermotard straight out of the box.

it was made in the same factory as the BMW F650. same engine, but only 4
valve head and bulbous bodywork. didnt handle as well and wasnt as fast.

i had that Aprilia for a long time and only changed it for the triumph when
i met my wife who liked being on pillion for holidays. the Triumph was in a
totally different league of course, big, comfortable, fuel injected, loads of
torque etc etc.

if your looking for the perfect starter bike i'd highly recommend the CBR600
Honda make bikes that are supremely easy to ride from novice to expert and the CBR600 has to be the best of the bunch. its fast, handles beautifully, looks good, sounds good and isnt overly expensive. no point spending a lot on the first bike just in case...
