if your looking for the perfect starter bike i'd highly recommend the CBR600
Honda make bikes that are supremely easy to ride from novice to expert and the CBR600 has to be the best of the bunch. its fast, handles beautifully, looks good, sounds good and isnt overly expensive. no point spending a lot on the first bike just in case you crash it or just dont take to being on 2 wheels. biking doesnt suit everyone despite what our heads tell us 
the MVA looks superb, but as Ben has said, there are many many bikes out there which give a much better riding experience. its a choice of form over function.
i must add that although i'm a lifelong biker and even did it for a living for health reasons i havent been able to ride for 10 years so i'm a little out of touch with the riding experience.
