As a proud owner of 5711 and 5712, please let me take a counter position here.
First of all thank you for your well written and elaborate post, mine will be neither I fear. Just felt the need to comment on a couple of points where I disagree.
My view as a customer:
- I do not think thtat a 5711 steel three hand should be more expensive than a platinum annual calendar 5960 + a Genta ROO. If supply and demand turns out that way, something is not right.
- The idea of having to buy many things I do not want regularly to build a „resume“ as a customer to be considered for what I want, to me is truly absurd.
The good part is that when considering these two poins, there is no reason to get depressed. Design, craftmanship, something you want to associate with, passion, … all these aspects are certainly available for everyone with a different brand that you can choose by pesonal preference - just think of Moser or Laurent Ferrier.
My view as a businessman:
- Dominaton: I can understand that you do not want one model to dominate, but the conclusion to limit I do not get. The problem is not the success of the Nauti, but the lack of crave on the other models. Do not punish the working model but work on the rest would be better. Otherwise it is like saying that Haaland should play with one shoe only to make for a better soccer game.
- Scaling craftsrmanship: If demand outnumbers supply for more than a century, I do not think that builing capacity to produce and assemble three hand steel watches in an overall struggeling industry is a task that could not get mastered.
- Dealers: Given the small number of dealers and sales, this could be managed. Why not create transparency on the rules and leverage a full registry of customers by the brand. You could stick with your ADs but get rid of any games in an instant.
- Marketing: As long as there are expensive print ads for Nauti models nowhere to be bought, I do not believe the company is honest when they say they are unhappy with the situation.
As said nowhere as nicely put as the initial post and likely will get some controversy, but felt these arguments should be thought of as well. And yes, I like my watches a lot.
