+1 Coffee therapy ...
The morning ritual with the La Pavoni lever certainly woke me up more than the caffeine! It took real focus to get the perfect cup.
The semiautomatics remove that control over infusion pressure, but the trade off is greater consistency and I am happy I have gone down that path. But I must say that I remember with great clarity the occasional perfect shot I achieved with the La Pavoni and the sense of achievement. So the time and effort involved in creating the perfect cup at home is part of the pleasure and should not be downplayed as a waste of time.
When do we start roasting our own beans, Jed?

Ming, the cups are the Illy Art Collection Cups.

George, for me I think grind, tamp and pull is a form of therapy.
For others, it's a time suck. Both are valid positions. If the Nespresso delivers what you like, it may not be right to be rid of it. For me, though, the satisfaction of a great pull is worth the effort. Best, CaliforniaJed

I think you're asking about a "super automatic", Imran.
A superauto will grind, tamp and pull the shot for you. If you've been to Starbucks, that's the kind of machine typically in use. Yes, you can use fresh beans, but you will not have much if any control over the variables of grind, tamp, temperature, press...
