Happy New Year. This is a great post, I've really enjoyed reading your quest for a perfect espresso and learned a lot about the process. I don't drink coffee or espresso on a regular basis (it makes my trigger finger twitchy) but now have a better appreciation for the details that go into selecting a machine and everything with it.

Ming, the cups are the Illy Art Collection Cups.

George, for me I think grind, tamp and pull is a form of therapy.
For others, it's a time suck. Both are valid positions. If the Nespresso delivers what you like, it may not be right to be rid of it. For me, though, the satisfaction of a great pull is worth the effort. Best, CaliforniaJed

I think you're asking about a "super automatic", Imran.
A superauto will grind, tamp and pull the shot for you. If you've been to Starbucks, that's the kind of machine typically in use. Yes, you can use fresh beans, but you will not have much if any control over the variables of grind, tamp, temperature, press...
