Excellent post. Someday...
I would like one of these single group machines. I'm afraid I don't have the time in the mornings for this sort of setup. I run a super automatic Gaggia Platinum Vision and could not be more satisfied. I bought it a few years ago when it first came out, and the price has dropped considerably. It requires almost no warm up or cool down time, and gets me out the door with a double shot Americano very quickly.
But I know to really learn the nuances of the perfect shot a setup like yours is required. Love the java posts Jed!

George, for me I think grind, tamp and pull is a form of therapy.
For others, it's a time suck. Both are valid positions. If the Nespresso delivers what you like, it may not be right to be rid of it. For me, though, the satisfaction of a great pull is worth the effort. Best, CaliforniaJed

I think you're asking about a "super automatic", Imran.
A superauto will grind, tamp and pull the shot for you. If you've been to Starbucks, that's the kind of machine typically in use. Yes, you can use fresh beans, but you will not have much if any control over the variables of grind, tamp, temperature, press...
