Finishing, decoration. Some thoughts, and an attempt to make a difference between them.

Avatar

In the world of watchmaking, finishing involves ensuring parts work together flawlessly, with techniques like matching up going-train parts and adjusting diameters within microns. Decorations like diamond-cut sinks and counterpiercing enhance aesthetics. Traditional techniques include Circular polish, Diamond moulding, and Cotes de Genève. While finishing is more functional, decoration adds prestige to a brand, exemplified by Jaeger-Lecoultre's Gyrotourbillon II....">Story

Celebrating the 21th anniversary of Parmigiani Fleurier in Paris

Avatar
foversta
A few days ago, I was invited to a very special celebration in Paris: the 21th anniversary of Parmigiani Fleurier and at the same time, the second anniversary of the Salon Parmigiani in the capital of France. The Salon Parmigiani is one of my fav horological places in Paris. For two main reasons: its location, in the arcade of the Palais Royal Gardens and because the staff always offers a warm welcome to the visitors. I like the concept put in place by Parmigiani...">Story

Patek Philippe 5970 - "cult status"

Avatar
Baron - Mr Red
The most recent edition of the Patek Philippe magazine (Volume IV, Number 3) provided a fascinating article about the Reference 5970. The article described the 5970 as a watch with “cult status” representing the ‘quintessence of complicated watchmaking at Patek Philippe.” That is high praise indeed. Many have argued that the perpetual calendar chronograph is the most important watch in Patek Philippe’s history. I think the origins of this type of thinking stem from the vintage classics; 1518 and 2499...">Story

Hands on review of the Chopard Mille Miglia Classic XL 90th Anniversary

Avatar
foversta
The Mille Miglia race celebrates its 90th anniversary and Chopard, as a major partner of the event could not miss the opportunity to celebrate this venerable milestone. Contrary to common beliefs, the race, as it is configured nowadays, is not a pleasant ride behind the wheel of historic and classic racing cars on charming Italian roads. Mixing regularity tests with journeys on roads open to traffic, it requires from the competing teams a concentration at all times and a great physical condition, the stages ... ...">Story

The Patek Philippe "MacNab" - 5070p. 5970p and 5370p

Avatar
Baron - Mr Red
Based on the novel entitled “John MacNab” by John Buchan in 1925, the “MacNab” has become something of a legend amongst hunters. Explained briefly, it involves the bagging of a stag, a salmon and a brace of grouse within one day (between dawn and dusk). The Field magazine describes it as a thrilling test of sporting skill. It could have been pheasant, rabbit or pigeon...">Story

My view on the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore 50th Anniversary Byblos

Avatar
foversta
I have to warn you about something: Summer is getting closer (and so think about your shape!). But why did I guess this? Simply because Audemars Piguet has just released two watches (one for men, one for ladies) in a context of a limited edition which celebates the 50th anniversary of the famous Byblos Palace Hotel in Saint-Tropez. So the conclusion is easy: the watches are perfect for spending nice holidays under the hot sun of the South of France. To be honest with you, I will not write a large novel about .....">Story

My first Montblanc Watch - the Heritage Chronometrie Ultra Slim

An intriguing watch: Wittnauer Electro Chron.

Avatar
amanico
Let's start by the beginning. Several years ago, I saw a strange watch for sale from the Sixties, at an auction. It was said that it was Joe Di Maggio's own watch, and it came with the box, which is as original as the watch. As I know nothing about base ball, I knew nothing about Joe Di Maggio, but what intrigued me was the watch...">Story
