For us who grew up in a divided Germany and had the incredible luck to witness the fall of the Berlin wall, today is a sad day: One of the key protagonists of the rapprochement between the East and the West, former (West-) German Minster of Foreign Affairs,
Dr. Walter Scheel, died aged 97.

A tiny historical detail which is little known is that Walter Scheel was an epicurean at heart and as such also an avid watch lover throughout his live. Of course, you would find him wristed with the obligatory Rolex Datejust, but this nice image shows him proudly presenting his AP Royal Oak:
So, for us it is not only the loss of an eminent historical figure, but also the passing of an amateur of horology.
RIP,
Magnus
