I truely love this brand and have watched it closely over the last few years. I am nearing the point at which I could buy one, but the only thing that slightly concerns me, is what happens when Mr Journe stops making watches for whatever reason? IMHO this brand is one of the best in the world, competing now with Patek, AP and Lange on almost every level, but these are relatively huge companies that do not have the enormous "key man risk" that Journe does - and one gets the impression that many people are involved in the key design stages.
Whils being amazing that Journe now competes with the likes of Patek, the only side effect with now being in this league is that I feel one owes it to your clients to some how reassure them that as "I look after my Journe for the next generation" the company will still be around. A few people that i have come accross (which is silly I know) have expressed a preference towards watches like Lange over Journe for no other reason other than the company is percieved to more robust. On the other side of the coin, comparing Journe to Dufour for example, a company where you clearly accept that one day Mr Dufour will stop making watches, but somehow feel that if you were lucky enough to get one then great , but with Journe now being in a different production league you can not really apply the same logic - perhaps I am wrong?
It is amazing what he has done in such a short time I think, but if I were to buy a Journe (a significant investment for me) should I be worried about the brand no longer existing for any reason in the near future?
What I would be very interested to know is whether there is anyone at FP Journe that is involved in the designing, conceptionalisation and building of new watches that shares the same vision etc as Mr Journe? Is there anyone there that can take over the reigns one day?
Bit of a silly post I know - but quite important questions to me
