A. Lange & Söhne

I totally agree

I would hate to see a rap artist customise his Turbograph with diamonds and rubies 😀 I too prefer ALS not to dilute the brand or over appeal to the mass market. What drew me to the brand was its exceptional craftsmanship and limited numbers.

My concern is the Tourbillion PLM is a rare and truly important timepiece, it is actually one of the purest and most accurate mechanical timepieces made considering it houses a superb Tourbillion plus a fusee & chain that further helps make timekeeping more accurate. It is also the earliest example of PLM and is no doubt significant for ALS. It should appeal to almost all knowledgeable collectors as a truly iconic timepiece, yet it didn't appeal to many in what is arguably one of the most important auctions this year. This leads me to conclude either:

a) the abundance of serious/knowledgable collectors with the means to buy such pieces is scarce
b) there is too much supply in rose gold/black dial
c) auction houses do not do a good job of educating their clients
d) all of the above

I don't buy the brands short history argument, ALS has taken the horological world by storm, quality speaks for itself and no one can deny that the best of the Swiss houses upped their game due to ALS. There are many brands that are equally young, yet they attract meaningful premiums and have not contributed to horological innovation in the way ALS has. Let's not forget that the Philippe Dufour Simplicity nearly fetched $1m and can debate that the Tourbillion PLM is just as important....
