A. Lange & Söhne

Original Lange Datograph

First of all congrats to the buyer who purchased that wonderful Pour le Merite.  Please wear it only in the best of health.

I was intrigued by Lange and understood that they made some of the finest watches in the world.  Years ago, I purchased new, the original rose DatoGraph with the deployant.  Smooth winding and buttery pushers, beautiful face and out of this world finishing on the movement.  A little thick but worth it to look at that stunning, deep movement.

A few weeks ago, I sold my Datograph and another watch towards funding a limited edition Patek.  I was shocked that the Datograph could not even come close to holding its original value after so many years.  In fact it sold for much, much less.  I realize that this Forum has rules against discussing prices and value and I hope I am not violating any rules, but I am merely expressing my views on the topic on this thread.

I have never purchased a watch to gain a return on my investment, I buy what I love and wear and enjoy the watches.

I was very surprised at this because I consider Lange a watch that is superior in most ways to other watch brands.

I agree with the other posters who stated that it has to be marketing or the perception of value in the marketplace, not the actual quality of the Lange watches themselves.

Nonetheless I was disappointed to sell my Datograph, but it was time to move on.
