A fun story about speedo calibration.
Hey Thomas,
your comment on the speedo calibrations reminded me of a fun story.
When i had my Audi A3, me and a friend owning the Subaru-dealership organized a small drive on some country roads. So one evening we went out to make a road-book, we decided to take my Audi. This was in an era we didn't have GPS systems ...

.... .
That particular sunday a lot of people arrived at the dealership, a lot of UK people with Imprezas and EVO's, i was driving another friends WRX, there were some Sierra Cosworths and even a Ferrari 355 .... .
Only after some 10 miles most of the cars were completely lost because the distances in the road book were completely "wrong" , oops, the Bim did it again

... seemed that for every 10 km my A3 rolled all the other cars did 11 km, a true 10 % more. So everybody was moaning about how wrong my German car was ( almost all the others were Japanese LOL).
A couple of years later i compared the mileage on the Audi with my newly acquired Garmin and for every 100 km with the car the GPS showed 99,9 km, almost dead-on !
I made a lot of comparisons and found out a Ducati 916 to be exaggerating at the same level as the Japanese .... cars .... but my Honda CBR 600 was very close to the real speed.
My current Audi exaggerates around 8 % so it really depends on the particular vehicle i guess .... .
Well, to go back to our drive on the country roads, it soon changed into a speed-orgy on some main roads, at one point we were having a drag race with 5 cars on a two-lane strip. An unforgettable sight for me ... in front a Ferrari 355 and a Cosworth at full revs, in the mirror another Cossie and a WRX chasing at 140 mph+ ...

.... the world had gone nuts that day.... like may other days i guess
Cheers,
Bim
