Chronos: useful & enjoyable
Variations of this kind of statement appear periodically on these forums. On a purely functional note, they are completely accurate, but they miss the whole point. Most of us do not buy watches only to tell time. It is part of a hobby & different aspects have different appeals. For me, nothing beats a simple (hrs-min-sub dial seconds) 3 hand watch. An automatic, quartz or phone watch do not have the same appeal. That’s just the way it is with a hobby. I suspect, the reason you have persisted in following this forum for a year, is some part of you feels that there is more to a watch that time. Otherwise you would have been perfectly content with your mobile phone. The chrono appeals to others in a similar way.
In terms of practical use, I use my chrono to see how long, I take to do a Sudoku. I occasionally use it to time laps in the swimming pool (Tag- Quartz version). And I use a Garmin almost daily to pace my runs & see my total timings. I can’t imagine doing either a half or full marathon with it to help me judge my pace.

and being beautifull is imo the most important when you buy a high end watch If it just needs to be usefull, a 100 euro quartz will do Now, about the complications ... I think a moonphase , a tourbillon and even a repeater are less usefull than a chronogr...
Chronograph: the only useful complication
Utility is a function of the user as well as the tool. I use a chronograph many times a day to time the duration of tasks (phone calls, reviewing documents, writing reports, etc.) for billing purposes. There's no other complication that would be as useful...

I have three watches with chronograph function
and I just love the way they look. You are right that I rarely use the chronograph. If you really want to time something accurately use a Timex or a Casio that can give you 1/100 seconds or better. But, as stated by others, there is more to a complication...
