I associate Horolgy more to do with the time of day, the month, year , lunar year, concepts of leap year etc rather than measuring the time interval between two points.
I realise that I may be shortening the scope of the word itself.

and being beautifull is imo the most important when you buy a high end watch If it just needs to be usefull, a 100 euro quartz will do Now, about the complications ... I think a moonphase , a tourbillon and even a repeater are less usefull than a chronogr...
Chronograph: the only useful complication
Utility is a function of the user as well as the tool. I use a chronograph many times a day to time the duration of tasks (phone calls, reviewing documents, writing reports, etc.) for billing purposes. There's no other complication that would be as useful...

and I just love the way they look. You are right that I rarely use the chronograph. If you really want to time something accurately use a Timex or a Casio that can give you 1/100 seconds or better. But, as stated by others, there is more to a complication...
