A very warm watch with warm colours. Please come and join us over at the Wristscan this week with your warm and cool watches! CC ...">Story

Another GP from the 1990s - the Ref. 2598 chronograph

Keeping with the theme of finding interesting GP watches from the 1990s (new to me, I suppose well known here), one that I have found recently is this lovely looking Ref. 2598. Part of the Vintage 1960 cushion shaped series (that did not quite possess the longevity of the 1945 series) it is one of the more elegant examples - and especially important for some, comes without a date window. It has two subcounters, with one being for the running seconds (3 o'clock) and the other a permanent 24h counter...">Story

The Girard-Perregaux Deep Diver 8867 V vs 8867 W – Deep into the details

Avatar

Friends, I have been talking a lot about the Girard-Perregaux Deep Diver reference 8867 over the past years… And no wonder, it is such a cool and in the same time elegant watch! While collectors of many other brands talk about different versions within the same reference, we GP collectors are happy to find just one watch, while many other brand collectors are able to build a collection just around one reference! Starting to divide by year, batches, different details on the dial, etc. … Mk I, Mk II, Mk III…. A special lingo is developed and in the end you need big books just to learn the basic! Well, we haven’t seen this kind of development within vintage GP (yet). Why? I am not sure but I do have my theories… For one, not that watches around to begin with...">Story

My view of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato ref 81000 with Blue dial

Friends, Last week I gave you my view of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato ref 81000 with Silver dial… Here is a link to the report: www.watchprosite.com Now the time has come for me to give you my view on the Blue dial version! The five words I choose in my previous report for the new Laureato with silver dial was: STUNNING, COOL, THIN, LIGHT and SOLID, with a bonus word of COMFORTABLE. Here, I would like to keep all the words but change the meaning of COOL. In fact, more like SUPER COOL! As cold as the monochrome look of the Silver dial may seem, as SUPER COOL is the look of the Blue! The waffle pattern on the Blue gives the dial better contrast for the hands and indexes. But not only that… Here is an important point for those of you who like to have the date feature on your watch: it gives a better contrast for the date window which is quite small, but easy to read! From the beginning I was thinking it would have been better with a matching blue date wheel… But after comparing with other watches I realize that if blue, I would have difficulties reading the date...">Story

Friends, Today starts the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil! What better excuse to have another look at some of the Girard-Perregaux Olimpico Chronographs?! Let’s start where it ended… 1996: 20 years ago, the 1996 Summer Olympic Games were the first to be staged in a different year from the Winter Games. The games took place in Atlanta, Georgia United States. U.S.A. President Bill Clinton were reelected for his second term in the White House...">Story

My view of the Girard-Perregaux Laureato ref 81000 with Silver dial

Friends, As you all know Girard-Perregaux re-launched the Laureato this year! A Limited Edition of 225 pieces in Blue and 225 with Silver dial. Since they are very different in appearance I decided to make my report of the Laureato reference 81000 a two parted report. In this part I will try to cover the Silver dial version: Before I go into the actual watch I like to address one point: “the Genta design”. Many times you get the comments of similarities...">Story

My view of the Girard-Perregaux 1966 Skeleton

Avatar
blomman Mr Blue
Friends, As I told you, I finally got to see the Girard-Perregaux 1966 Skeleton in the metal during my last visit at the Manufacture. This is a watch I had been waiting to see with a lot of anticipation! Why? Normally I not a big fan of Skeleton watches. I don’t like to see my “hairy wrist” through the dial… OK, my wrist is not that hairy but you get my point! But from what I could see in pictures, the Girard-Perregaux 1966 Skeleton was promising… Not too much areas of see-through to the “other side”, and ... ...">Story

Girard-Perregaux Competizione vs Olimpico?

Avatar
blomman Mr Blue
Friends, While visiting the Manufacture last week I was wearing my Girard-Perregaux Olimpico Chronograph reference 8846. Sadly, we all know there will not be another Girard-Perregaux Olimpico Chronograph… But when I had another look at the new Competizione collection… Competizione, Stradale: I could not help my self dreaming about another Olimpico… Imagine a modern sized Sports chronograph 40 – 42 mm with the same or similar dial as the Olimpico 8846… Sunburst dial in silver, classic blue and red Tachymeter scale, 12 hour/three sub-dials chronograph… If you think about it… The new Girard-Perregaux Competizione is quite similar! 42 mm, 12 hours, Sports chronograph with oversized crown, round pushers… And if you look at the case there are a lot of similarities. Round, quite low and thin bezel… The lugs are coming out of the case as an extension of the case curve. Pretty wide between the curved, short lugs! Now the dial, the dial already have applied indexes...">Story
