There's always good and bad

No single manufacturer will have a 100.0000% percent client satisfaction.

And I'm not saying this in disrespect to your situation. You do have a point that the salesperson could have made it a lot easier if he/she just swapped the strap for you. That way, Lange probably wouldn't have lost any money anyway, there's one more ultra-happy customer, and god-knows the good vibe would spread all over the internet.

However, your incident is unfortunate. But let's not forget that such special treatment of letting a customer swap over a used (however lightly) strap should not be a "GIVEN", but a very kind favour. If the customer gets the favour, well good on you, if not, we shouldn't be frustrated, and let that overwhelm our love of the actual product.

While Fricks story about a Patek salon staff gifting him a free strap is amazing, there are 100 other if not more Patek customers as frustrated as you are now, that Patek wouldn't sell them an expensive watch because they are not "important enough". I went into the same salon a few years ago and barely got eye-contact and greeting when browsing around. The point is, there are always people with positive experiences, and unavoidably negative experiences as well, plainly because such brand policies are just like the law - ie, prone to different interpretations by different people who execute these policies at that time. No policies are rigid, it's normally the person.

Let me share a couple of positive experiences I had personally with Lange, once at a boutique and once at a manufacture. It was the Dubai Lange boutique that I've visited, and I had a long conversation with the salesperson. During the conversation, the salesperson showed much knowledge about Lange's watches (even just newly announced models, as my visit was around a month post the SIHH). What I'm impressed with is that the salesman wasn't interested in getting me to buy a watch, as he realised I had a few Lange watches in my collection before and knows about their watches - he was happy to just talk about Lange and offered to show me anything in the displays. It was over half an hour and knowing I'm not a purchasing customer, he was eager to stay with me rather than making an excuse to attend to other customers in the shop. While I didn't end up scoring a free strap over my conversation, I felt it was a very pleasant experience almost like meeting a fellow watch collector rather than wandering into a shop.

My other experience was during my Lange manufacture visit to Glashutte. During the tour, I mentioned the Lange watch I was wearing that day was running a bit  too fast, and immediately I was offered to leave it at the service building for a few hours so they can re-regulate and clean the movement it on-the-spot, free of charge, while we wander around town. It was a Langematik, almost one of their lowest end models.
