Goes back to US govt.
United and continental were allowed to merge thanks to to our govt. basically creating a monopoly. Since then United has screwed the flyers every possible way they could. All about $$$. Not about people. Wells fargo makes false credit cards and thats fine too. Jokes on the people!
no excuse for this

They should have kept increasing the compensation offer until they had enough volunteers. At some point, people will accept. Airlines take a gamble by overbooking and they make millions of dollars on the bet. When they lose the bet, they should be prepare...
My question is
By: TS1987 : April 10th, 2017-23:24
The injured passenger was a doctor. Now if he was travelling to transplant an organ placed on ice into a patient, got kicked off the flight and then the organ deteriorates to the point of no return (highly likely scenario); who provides a replacement (com...
I'm very shocked!
By: patrick_y : April 10th, 2017-23:24
The man did nothing wrong. The airline overbooked and should have offered more compensation in excess of $800/$1000 in vouchers to clients until the required number of volunteers stepped forward. If you overbook, shouldn't you pay the price of offering mo...

The sad thing is that we are probably all indirect stockholders in United Airlines considering so many funds invest in major airlines. I'm not a shareholder individually and I checked if I was a shareholder through a fund I was in to declare any professio...
Slightly different, though
By: rnaden : April 11th, 2017-03:07
In terms of a restaurant, if a patron is refused service before paying, that's different. With airlines, passengers pay up front, and sometimes months ahead. At the very minimum, if someone is kicked off a plane, there should be a full refund, plus compen...

I've been flying United Airlines since I was four years old. And I'm a frequent flyer with United; in the past six months I've booked at least five round trip flights booked with United (January to Geneva was with British Airways which was delayed, lost m...
Customer service
By: sham1 : April 11th, 2017-00:26
seems to be a thing long forgotten among many airlines which is a very sad thing. The CEO's statement has a lack of foresight as it has irreparable damage on United Airlines reputation in the long run. Airlines seem to think that passengers need them more...
It gets even worse...
By: KMII : April 11th, 2017-01:21
According to how the news has been reported locally, the reason why they wanted to deplane the passenger was to accomodate four flight crew members from a partner airline (so not other paying passengers). Irrespective of the fine print, basically passenge...
You're right...

Having flown with those airlines of smaller countries, I totally agree! They are often quite good! EVA (Evergreen) Air is one of my favorites. I have a newfound appreciation for my friends coming from the East to the USA on an American carrier.
Violence is never right

There is something very wrong here as most of us agree. However if bumping passengers has to take place, surly that is done before the formal boarding an aeroplane? It certainly happened to me that way in Paris. Otherwise checked-in baggage has to be remo...
Thank You Clive.
By: patrick_y : April 11th, 2017-02:36
I agree, the passenger should never have boarded. First mistake made by the airline. Just so shocking. I wonder what I would do if something similar happened in my presence. Admittedly there's not much I could do without getting myself into a lot of legal...
Lying airlines...
By: patrick_y : April 15th, 2017-08:10
An airline can't lie to you like that. That's terrible. If a flight is cancelled for weather reasons that's one thing; but to lie to you and tell you it's cancelled in order not to pay you your deserved compensation for an overbooked flight, that's just h...

You can't remove a seated passenger from the plane without mutual agreement. The plane was heavily overbooked. I guess even at check-in or the boarding gate, a number of passengers had been denied boarding, with or without compensation. From what the news...

$1500? Wow, I would've taken that! Definitely agree with your statements; "you simply can't remove a boarded, non disruptive, seated passenger from the plane without mutual agreement, let alone by force." That's definitely a fair statement that all airlin...

I've been reading the thread on FlyerTalk but I never participate there so glad we have one here. As a frequent business flyer, this story tells me a few things: (1) I am a glass half empty person when it comes to flying and this kind of thing just suppor...

Haunting memories...
By: patrick_y : April 18th, 2017-14:48
That's just a terrible story. It's amazing that we entrust an airline to get us to our destination in times of great stress, pain, and anguish; and not only do they not deliver, they rudely add greater insult to injury. Perhaps we should trust the airline...
