Girard-Perregaux’s modern Richeville line

Avatar
crown comfort
Friends, I have always been a huge fan of the modern Richeville line, in fact, the Richeville is the watch that infected me with the GP bug, hence it is such an important piece for me. Back in 1997 when I was really not very knowledgeable and only owned one watch, I made an impulse purchase in Hong Kong of a Richeville 2750 with blue dial. I was immediately taken by the Tonneau case with its stepped bezel and those triangular pushers. Many years later, when I started to seriously get into watches, Girard-Perregaux .....">Story

Avatar

Friends, One more novelty from this year, SIHH 2017: Girard-Perregaux 1966 Large Date with Moon Phases! A classic combination of complications in a 40mm case. Two complications that Girard-Perregaux learned to master: Large Date, the date change is lightning fast, one ten thousandth of a second! Moon Phases, needs to be set once in a lifetime, if the movement is running constantly, needs to be adjusted every 122 years! But doesn’t GP already have a 1966 Large Date with Moon Phases? Yes, in 2015 one version ... ...">Story

My view of the Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges

Avatar
blomman Mr Blue
Friends, One of the most alluring watches at SIHH this year for me is the Girard-Perregaux Neo Bridges. Big, bold, dark, hi-tech… Tradition in a modern package. A lethal combination! Big , the case measures 45 mm in diameter and 12.18 mm thick. Even if this is a big watch if you look at the numbers, the fit and comfort on the wrist are perfect! The short, curved lugs help the watch wear smaller then it is...">Story

My view of the Girard-Perregaux Constant Escapement Black

Avatar
blomman Mr Blue
Friends, In 2013 Girard-Perregaux introduced the Constant Escapement in White Gold, 48 mm and in 2014, the Pink Gold, 48 mm. Last year we saw the CE in 46 mm Titanium case. This year GP follow up with a 46 mm version in Carbon & Titanium composite case! Reference: 93505-39-633-BA6J The technical solution of having a silicon "butterfly", 14 microns thick, as escapement is just brilliant! Placing it on the front of the watch give you the full view of the escapement mechanism for you to enjoy each "tick". Of course the 2 mm smaller size helps making this watch feel smaller.....">Story

Friends, Yes, you read it right – Damier Gyromatic. The more well-known Damier ref 7427 with with only hour and minute hands, no second’s hand or date is with a manual movement (GP 25-29/GP26-09). The less known or seen cousin, the Damier ref 7838 has a Gyromatic movement inside! Let’s start from the beginning and have a look at the 7838: At first glance the two looks very similar. The obvious differences being the second’s hand and the date...">Story

Friends, I just received the initial news from Geneva. Here is a short line up of some of the novelties this year, but I suspect there will be more! I think no one will be surprised that the re-birth of the Laureato last year was not a one-time thing. This year, Girard-Perregaux follows with four new models; Laureato Tourbillon: the prestige of a Gold Bridge Here two GP icons meet; The Laureato and the arrow shaped Golden Bridge! Two versions; Pink Gold, Titanium/White Gold. Laureato 42 mm: masculine elegance Three dial versions; Silver, Grey, Blue...">Story

Throwback Thursday – 1957 Girard-Perregaux Gyromatic 39 Jewels

Avatar
blomman Mr Blue
Friends, Time for me to show my last catch of 2016: The Girard-Perregaux Gyromatic 39 Jewels, reference 7317. To me this is the original Gyromatic 39 Jewels. The one used in all commercials from that time as “The first selfwinding watch with 39 Jewels and jewel roller bearings”! Notice the version featured in the red frame, that is the exact version as mine. Back in 1957, GP made a big number of the 39 Jewels movement and the 7317...">Story
