I happen to agree with all your points Mark
when I began my journey through the fantastic world of watches. I wanted so bad a green bezel Submariner, it was back in 2009. A friend of mine conviced the watch was nor beautiful or a keeper for the upcoming years. He was quite a visionnary? The fact is, I didn't know much about watches and he had an impressive collection of Jaeger Lecoultre, so I began to get interested in Jaeger Lecoultre which was for me the top notch. I was almost 100% offline at this time
Then I began to pay attention to fora and I am convinced that this has influenced my choices, Rolex Submariner, Reverso Duoface which are excellent watches, but would I have bought them if I had not visited so many fora.
Now some 7 years later my first inscription on a watch forum ( mainly french one ), I'm in Purist where Patek Philippe, Lange & Shone etc... are the top, the fora I visited before, those brands were quiet rare. Do I want a Patek Philippe... ?? Yes I do... Do I think the 5110 is crazy?? Yes sir...
To conclude I happen to agree with all your points Mark but aware of this, I tried and will try more in the future "to think outside the box"

I agree....I am bemused when I hear comments in how lazy PP is for not making movements for specific case sizes and how wonderful Lange is!! The 5524 Bey g one criticized for too small case....
