Patek Philippe

I noticed the same indeed

About sizes, aesthetics, proportions etc... I see indeed quite many remarks about these elements too and this can shead a light over brand's strategies today.

I had a thought about the 5170 lately: we often would like to see references looking more like the older models, the vintage ones for instance. What is one of the closest modern reference to some of the most famous iconic Patek chronographs? I think the 5170 is very close to what the 130 and 530 were, exactly what we ask for. However, the 5170 doesn't seem to be as successful as the 5070 on forums (forums are I think not representative of the whole customers' profile imho).

Of course, it is a matter of details, a little more here, a little less there.... and the result, though very similar is not as appealing. The limit of my example.

However, if I try to remain objective, I think that indeed the 5170 and 5270 have a lot of assets and that it can gain in success from forumners in the future. We'll see how it goes and how the new standard set by the industry will look like.

You mention "respect" and I think it is indeed a good expression: they have earned this respect from their assets and it is well deserved smile

As for your last sentence, it is interesting to see that you are on both sides, focusing on the watch itself in different ways. I love the 5110 and 5230 for different reasons, I would put 5970 and 5270 equal and maybe a slight preference for the 5070 (though I like the 5170G silver dial :p ).

So, you mention the 5230, have you been able to handle it? Glad you gave it some thoughts and it is nice to have your positive feedback. I'll have to make a review of this watch smile

Thanks a lot Padj for sharing your thoughts, it is very interesting reading.

Best, Mark
