As another member pointed out, the price at JLC has gone up 40% on some models in a short time.
The INGENIEUR is a true Genta sketched design that Genta designed himself personally. So there's some value there since right now the world is crazy about the Nautilus and Royal Oak. So I do expect a premium to be paid on the INGENIEUR. But not THAT MUCH MORE than the Mark XX which uses the same exact movement... They could've put in a different movement - then the comparison wouldn't be so obvious.
I don't know if it'll flop. Let's say these big executives know what they're doing. They know how to create hype. They know how to make a cool product. And they know their average customer might not look so closely and just go crazy off the Gerald Genta connection. These big executives are very smart. PhD in psychology, etc. The watch will probably sell well. And if it does slow down, they'll just change the model and make an even better model. Stick in an even better movement, change the dial a bit, and increase the price some more. When Chopard put in a higher quality movement into the Alpine Eagle and doubled the price (the XPS model with the pink dial), nobody complained, because people see the value in that 96-series Geneva Seal movement. I have a feeling that IWC will make an even better INGENIEUR in a few years. A more refined version. And they'll charge even more money for it!
